Summer days in a summer town summer people are walking 'round they go flip-flop on the boardwalk, they lie in the sand Every year we build the beach up good but the sand washes down to Wildwood The dark sea is hungry and it eats away the land but we've got ice cream and lemonade a pocket fulla quarters at Jilly's Arcade Summer money to be made, gotta last the whole year Old guys with fishing gear standing in a line at the end of the pier They're praying for a week of sunny days before another summer's washed away Summer nights in a summer town the party starts when the sun goes down they go flip-flop on the boardwalk under carnival lights Summer lovers hand in hand are standing in line at Wonderland to be flung high in the dark sky and laugh at the night 'cause they've got ice cream and lemonade a pocket fulla quarters at Jilly?s Arcade Summer money to be made while we hold back the tide Bumper cars and water slides everybody wants just one more ride They're praying for a week of sunny days before another summer's washed away Under the boardwalk, the sea's creeping back It sucks at the pilings, it foams through the cracks You can stare past the railings at white-caps on black velvet waves but we've got ice cream and lemonade a pocket fulla quarters at Jilly's Arcade Summer money to be made, gotta make a bit more Beach balls and boogey-boards all the little children who come down the shore They're praying for a week of sunny days before another summer's washed away Summer days in a summer town - flip-flop on the boardwalk Summer people are walking round - flip-flop on the boardwalk Ice cream and lemonade - flip-flop on the boardwalk Summer money to be made - flip-flop on the boardwalk Beach balls and boogey-boards all the little children who come down the shore and all the guys with fishing gear standing in a line at the end of the pier and all the merchants down the shore (except for the guy who owns the video store) They're praying for a week of sunny days © 2007 Zoe Mulford/ SquashFlower (ASCAP)

Coyote Wings 05:32
Well you say you've got a passion, that you've got to trust your heart but I can see the mess there'll be when the whole thing falls apart and I see you making choices I think that you'll regret but Coyote thinks he's flying when he just don't know he's falling yet and he's got plans - he's got dreams He's got a roll of duct tape and a million crazy schemes and if I could call up Heaven, if I could pull some strings I'd like to see you fly on your coyote wings I don't want to burst your bubble - I don't want to bring you down 'cause you can get rejection cheap in any store in town I just say this 'cause I love you, don't want to see you lose You might want to reconsider those rocket shoes but you got plans - you got dreams You've got an Acme catalogue and a million crazy schemes and if I could call up Heaven, if I could pull some strings I'd like to see you fly on your coyote wings Well you never see it coming 'til it's right before your eyes You always hit that same damn wall and each time you're surprised and every time you're a little wiser as you're spitting out the dust and it's funny every time until the time you don't get up but you got plans - you got dreams Got four ways to beat the market out of Fortune magazine and if I could call up Heaven, if I could pull some strings I'd like to see you fly on your coyote wings Coyote paws twitch in your sleep Coyote dreams go beep-beep A purple bird with a smug little smile leading you on over mile after mile So much heat - so little food You're as good as dead if you stop to brood so don't you be moody or making a tragedy all that you need is a brand new gadget Wings - springs - slingshots - rockets all of the stuff you can buy out of pocket Shop for the best, it'll bring you success 'cuz anything goes in the pursuit of happiness you go boom to boom - you go bust to bust Trust that your destiny will manifest and keep doing your best - and keep eating dust It's the law of the desert, starving or striving 'cuz somebody hungrier's always arriving so catch what you can - snatch what you need hopped up on hope and gunpowder and speed and the rockets rise - you can taste the sky this starving dog was born to fly and the map spreads out - you own the whole damn place 'til the earth rises up and hits you whap in the face. I want to be a friend to you but I don't know what to say I know you didn't ask and you won't listen to me anyway I won't be there to catch you when physics brings you low but you won't hear me saying "I told you so" 'Cause when I speak about my passion, when I tell folks what I do I see them looking at me just the way I look at you and I got plans - I got dreams I got a roll of duct tape and a million crazy schemes and if someone calls up Heaven, if someone pulls some strings some day I'm gonna fly on my coyote wings Some day we're gonna fly on our coyote wings © 2012 Zoe Mulford/ SquashFlower (ASCAP)

Sister, Sail 03:43
The sky was red at morning above the brooding bay and the cannons cried a warning, but still you slipped away to gain your lofty vessel and fly before the gale from peril into peril - sister, sail! Your company awaits you, a canny crew and keen of joyful desperadoes and you their pirate queen who faced a frowning fortune and lived to tell the tale Now seek the far horizon - sister, sail! Sister, sail - and so defy them all with a bounty laid upon you in every port of call oh, sail - rejoicing as we may through the world in all its wonder til the day we all go under through another plundered sunrise, sister, sail - sail another day! And you'll lay in by the islands beneath a ruby moon to fill the hold with sandalwood and chocolate and dubloons with every smuggled treasure and every dear detail and all the world a treasure, sister, sail! And the bonny ship you sail in has weathered fire and flood She knows the taste of powder and she knows the taste of blood Someday she will founder, someday she will fail but that day is not today, so sister, sail! So sail with all your courage, sail with all your skill Sail because you must and sister, sail because you will Leave behind a legend, a tale for all to tell - but better still to tell the tale yourself Sister, sail - and so defy them all with a bounty laid upon you in every port of call oh, sail - rejoicing as we may through the world in all its wonder til the day we all go under through cannon-fire and thunder to another plundered sunrise, sister, sail - sail another day! © 2012 Zoe Mulford/ SquashFlower (ASCAP)

Storm Damage 04:30
When the storm had passed, fallen branches lay around the yard and we went to see - when we found what had happened to the cherry tree, it hit us pretty hard. Half the tree was gone. Down the trunk, there ran a ragged gash torn by bitter winds and below, the largest and the fairest limb lay broken on the grass. And it seemed to be the cruelest blow that any storm could bring and someone said, "That poor old tree won't see another spring," but the tree still stands, the tree still grows and you know the roots run deep, the tree still blooms when the gentle rains wake it out of its barren sleep and the branches reach to hold the sun and the cherries still are sweet. Even now, it hurts. That old tree won't be the same again, and we miss the perch where we used to climb to watch the distant hills appearing after rain. And we remember happiness and yearn for what is lost and we think about the new green buds that follow on the frost, 'cause the tree still stands... We will not forget. It's no shame to weep for what is gone, but the spring has come and what survives through hardship is as beautiful as what was whole and strong. You can tell where the big branch used to be from the way the others grow. The scars are long and jagged and they're always going to show but the tree still stands... © 2012 Zoe Mulford/ SquashFlower (ASCAP)

She is sleeping in her evening gown blue velvet sewn with copper sequins Glittering rivers stitched on by hand follow her curves, give you the lay of the land Oh, tread softly, don't make a sound She's sleeping in her evening gown She is sleeping in her evening gown Every night, it takes so long to dress She puts on her jewels and lies back down just for a moment - just to stay fresh and oh, she'd blush to know she's been found here sleeping in her evening gown Don't disturb her, just observe her in her shimmering crazy quilt Hovering above her, it's so easy to love her She's so beautifully built (She's sleeping - shhhhh) The vision revolves and slowly resolves into the street map of your home town The plane touches down and she's just the same old city, she's gritty and loud but wasn't she pretty from up in the clouds when you could see for miles around when she was a goddess in a beaded bodice sleeping in her evening gown sleeping in her evening gown © 2012 Zoe Mulford/ SquashFlower (ASCAP)

No moon at all - what a night! Even lightning bugs have dimmed their light Stars have disappeared from sight and there's no moon at all No moon at all - it's so dark even Fido is afraid to bark What a perfect night to park and there's no moon at all Should we need atmosphere for inspiration, dear one kiss should make it clear that tonight is right and bright moonlight might interfere No moon at all up above This is nothing like they told us of Just to think, we fell in love and there's no moon at all

Just out of San Quentin in my seven-dollar shoes on a bus to Humboldt County, one row back of you I try to get you talking just to pass some time away and you smile and ask me am I saved You're going to redwoods, to a rural ministry to carry Jesus' love to guys a lot like me You tell me about Bible camp, how you loved it there and if I lean close, I can smell your hair and it's a long way to Humboldt County It's a long, dark ride through the tall, tall trees You say you're walking with the Saviour Well, if you keep on talking, girl, maybe you can save me. I say my name is Robert, I just turned twenty-one You wouldn't want to know about the things I've done There's nothing to go back to but the bridges that I burned and the life I wrecked cuz I never learned I tell you a few stories just to see your eyes get wide Nothing's looked so pretty since I've been inside I haven't talked to Jesus since the summer I turned ten but if you held my hand, I could pray again cuz it's a long way to Humboldt County It's a long, dark ride through the tall, tall trees You say you're walking with the Saviour Well, if you keep on talking, girl, maybe you can save me. Oh, hold me close, make me new It wouldn't be a sin if I was doing it with you I'm sure that you could make me be a better man if I could lie down with you like the lion with the lamb I'll probably be staying with this woman that I knew Yeah, she was my dealer, what you gonna do? You could make it different if you'd see me through this night You could change my path, you could make things right cuz it's a long way to Humboldt County It's a long, dark ride through the tall, tall trees You say you're walking with the Saviour Well, if you keep on talking, girl, maybe you - if you keep on talking, baby, talk me through - if you keep on talking baby, only you can save me. © 2012 Zoe Mulford/ SquashFlower (ASCAP)

Hello - hello I beg your pardon who were you trying to call? no, I’m sorry you’re mistaken there’s no one by that name here at all no, that’s quite all right I rarely sleep this time of night it sounds like you know how that can be and it’s awful late to be waking up your friend maybe we should just pretend you called for me I know - I know it must seem crazy talking to a stranger this way but you sound so upset you’ll say something you regret if you call that woman back right away I hear your voice how it catches in your throat and I recognize the note of misery I’m quite discreet and I’ve got some time to spend so why don’t we just pretend you called for me now you see what it’s about sometimes it helps to talk it out with someone that you know you’ll never see call back any time if you feel this way again and we can just pretend we can just pretend we can just pretend you called for me © 2012 Zoe Mulford/ SquashFlower (ASCAP)

Acrobats 03:03
It's showtime - hundreds watch There's a spotlight that waits for you You hope you will not miss your cue You hope your partner makes the catch Here's the death-defying act that launches you into the air Love's a trick that few would dare Except for fools and acrobats Three cheers for the acrobats Three cheers for the acrobats Three cheers for the acrobats of love It's give and take, it's knowing when to go for broke or take it slow, holding fast and letting go and turning round to hold again And a hand in a loving hand - you're ready now to risk it all Fools are not afraid to fall and acrobats know how to land Three cheers for the acrobats Three cheers for the acrobats Three cheers for the acrobats of love See them spinning high above! See them dancing on the wire! See them leap through hoops of fire, the acrobats of love! Your ladder's braced, your ropes are strong You've checked your equipment twice, practiced hard to get it right but you can laugh when things go wrong In time, though your bodies crack your hearts will only grow in skill May your love be limber still when you're old fools and acrobats Three cheers for the acrobats Three cheers for the acrobats Three cheers for the acrobats of love © 2012 Zoe Mulford/ SquashFlower (ASCAP)

Oooo, it's a working night - turn on the radio The midnight oil is burning bright - we've got hours to go You and me and the night-shift nurses, the clerks at the convenience store making do and working through the longest hours of the twenty-four Can't sleep 'til we've earned our daily bread, and we live on coffee when sleep is dead and when the coffee's all gone, we will live on music we will live on music alone Oooo, it's a working night - the midnight minutes run We've all got so much to do before we see the sun You and me and the cab dispatchers, the long-haul truckers on the road Freight trains moan a mournful tone as they bear the heavy loads Can't sleep 'til we've earned our daily bread... The inventory-takers and the night construction crews The slackers under deadline with no more time to lose When the local stations turn to snow we get the BBC on the radio - on the other side of the world, they're making tomorrow's news Oooo, it's a working night - the dark is wearing thin We all stop to catch our breath before the birds begin You and me and the brand-new parents, the crisis hotline volunteers We gaze at the sky with wondering eyes: it's another day and we're still here Can't sleep 'til we've earned our daily bread... We're keeping watch and holding steady cleaning up and making ready stealing hours from the night counting down until the light Keeping watch and holding steady cleaning up and making ready stealing hours from the night counting down counting down counting down until the light © 2012 Zoe Mulford/ SquashFlower (ASCAP)

Farewell, I must leave you soon Three hundred miles beneath the moon though loving voices tell me not to go Surely this is madness, but I have made a promise and somewhere someone waits for me, I know and one white line will lead me on from mountain night to lowland dawn and trees along the river, white as snow o, white line - o, dark night Nobody else is fool enough to be out on the road tonight o, white-tailed deer - o, white-faced moon o, sunrise Susquehanna where the white trees bloom sunrise Susquehanna all in bloom White line in the moonlight the circle of my headlights Tonight these are the only things I know Crawling toward the breaking day with one CD I just let play I don't dare take my eyes off of the road The songs come round and round again and every one becomes a friend to guide me to the place I need to go o, white line - o, dark night Nobody else is fool enough to be out on the road tonight o, white-tailed deer - o, white-faced moon o, sunrise Susquehanna where the white trees bloom sunrise Susquehanna all in bloom and blessings on the ones who roam between goodbye and welcome home and all the planets spinning out through space I never claimed to love the road but I must wander to and fro til everyone I love is in one place I only hope to find my guide, survive the trip, enjoy the ride, and notice when I have been granted grace o, white line - o, dark night Nobody else is fool enough to be out on the road tonight o, white-tailed deer - o, white-faced moon o, sunrise Susquehanna where the white trees bloom sunrise Susquehanna - sunrise Susquehanna sunrise Susquehanna all in bloom sunrise Susquehanna all in bloom © 2012 Zoe Mulford/ SquashFlower (ASCAP)
